Seahawks sign safety Ellison

The Seahawks have signed safety Kevin Ellison for the second time in one week, according to Seahawks.com.

Our View: Ellison has now been released by San Diego, signed and released by Seattle and now signed again by the Seahawks all in one week. As a rookie, he started nine games for San Diego, and could find a home with former coach Pete Carroll considering Seattle’s weak secondary. He failed his first physical with the Seahawks due to an undisclosed injury.

Benson arrested, situation considered minor?

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Cedric Benson claims he did reach out to the NFL office and Bengals to inform them of events in an Austin (TX) bar that led up to Tuesday’s assault charge.

A league source familiar with the situation told Schefter that Benson’s case is "very minor." Benson reportedly had no idea he’d be charged with the Class A misdemeanor, so he might not have taken the situation seriously. Via attorney David Cornwell, Benson has publicly contended that he was the victim, not the person(s) he allegedly assaulted. Schefter noted that Benson has a history of off-field problems, but didn’t predict what will come of this.

Saints claim Gorrer

Cornerback Danny Gorrer has been claimed off waivers by the New Orleans Saints.

Our View: In three games for the Rams last season, he notched five tackles. If he makes the Saints, it will be as a special teamer.

Report: Chargers open to discussing V-Jax

The Chargers have "made it known" that unsigned restricted free agent Vincent Jackson will remain available for trade, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

"Several other teams," reportedly including the Redskins, have joined the Seahawks in expressing interest. Jackson is said to be seeking a long-term deal slightly above the four-year, $47.5 million deal (low on guarantees) that Brandon Marshall signed in April. No-nonsense GM A.J. Smith is apparently prepared to make good on his promise to move on with V-Jax and Marcus McNeil. At this point, a trade would be a lifeline for Jackson’s 2010 fantasy value.

Chiefs sign fifth rounder

The Chiefs have signed fifth round draft pick Kendrick Lewis, according to the National Football Post’s Aaron Wilson.

Our View: A defensive back, he’s very unlikely to get on the field next season when not on special teams.

Russell linked to several teams

JaMarcus Russell has been linked to the Vikings, Jets and Cardinals in various recent rumors, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View: All three of the teams have apparently shown just elementary interest, and no deal for Russell is imminent. Any interest is good interest for Russell at this point, though it remains to be seen if someone will bring him on board before training camp arrives.

Slaton cleared to practice

Steve Slaton (neck) tweeted on Monday that he’s back in action for the Texans, according to his Twitter page.

Our View: Slaton also said that he’s healed fast and correctly, and it sounds like he’s been medically cleared to participate in Houston’s activities. His role remains unclear, but you can bet that the Texans will figure him into their game plans in one way or another. If he can get past his fumbling issues from last season, he could end up bouncing back nicely this year.

Texans’ Slaton appears to be cleared for camp

Steve Slaton (neck surgery) indicated on Twitter Monday that he’s been medically cleared for training camp.

“I’m back,” Slaton tweeted. “Thank you lord for watching over me and helping me heal fast and correctly.” While the Texans have yet to issue an update on Slaton’s medical check, this is a big hurdle for the third-year tailback. Slaton will be an injury risk going forward after cervical neck fusion surgery, so he’ll be worth keeping a close eye on while facing contact in camp. If healthy, he’ll likely be limited to third-down work this year behind Arian Foster and Ben Tate.

Steelers hosting OT Flozell Adams on Tuesday

The Steelers hosted free agent OT Flozell Adams on Tuesday, putting him through a workout and giving him a physical.

Pittsburgh is in dire need of offensive tackle help after losing Willie Colon for the season and promising rookie Chris Scott indefinitely due to foot surgery. Adams is 35 and in clear decline, but fits the Steelers’ mold as a power-blocking lineman. He’s also still a plenty effective run blocker.
