Fred Jackson (hand) will be limited early

Coach Chan Gailey admitted Tuesday that Fred Jackson (hand) will be “limited early in the year.” according to the Bills web site.

Our View: With the way CJ Spiller has looked lately, and considering Marshawn Lynch is back from a high ankle sprain, there’s no reason to rush Jackson through his recovery from a fractured hand. Still, don’t forget about Jackson on draft day. He’s going to play soon enough, and he’s still the safe bet to outpace Spiller when it comes to rushing TDs.

Gailey: Jackson to be ‘limited early in year’

Coach Chan Gailey acknowledged Tuesday that Fred Jackson will be "limited early in the year" has he recovers from a fractured hand.

C.J. Spiller deserves a significant role and Marshawn Lynch is back from an ankle sprain, so there’s no reason to rush back Jackson. Our concern is with the rising ADP of Spiller and the swift fall of Jackson’s. Spiller is now consistently being drafted in the fifth round, while Jackson is falling to the eighth and ninth. Jackson is the better bet for touchdowns, and may not finish with many fewer rushing yards despite the injury.

Report: Otah has “slim” chance of playing week one

According to Darin Gantt of the Charlotte Observer, the chances of Jeff Otah playing week one are “getting slim.”

Our View: Gantt thinks that Geoff Schwartz will be forced to start the first game and possibly the second. Otah hasn’t practiced in weeks, and that could spell trouble for the offense with Justin Tuck and the Giants sitting first on the slate.

Raiders waive TE Eric Butler

According to Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune, The Raiders waived tight end Eric Butler Tuesday.

Our View: That didn’t take long. Butler was signed on August 19, and just like that he’s gone. He’s been dealing with a shoulder issue that got him waived by the Rams earlier, as well, and that couldn’t have helped his chances.

Walter Thurmond will be Seahawks nickel back

Rookie cornerback Walter Thurmond is expected to fill the Seahawks nickel back role now that Josh Wilson has been traded, according to Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times.

Our View: Thurmond had first-round talent, but he slipped to the fourth after tearing three knee ligaments early in his senior season. He’s got the talent to move into a full-time starting role this year, and he should do fine as the nickel.

Ravens acquire CB Josh Wilson

According to Aaron Wilson of National Football Post, the Ravens have acquired CB Josh Wilson from the Seahawks for a conditional fifth-round pick.

Our View: The Ravens continue to attempt to shore up their crippled secondary. Wilson picked off two passes and made 45 tackles while playing in 12 games for Seattle last season. It’ll be interesting to see what happens to him in Baltimore considering the state of their defensive backs.

Report: Cards shopping Matt Leinart

According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, sources are saying that the Cardinals are actively trying to trade Matt Leinart.

Our View: It’s not known what they’d want in return, but “several sources” have told Glazer that they’re looking to unload Leinart. That seems to be a pretty clear sign that Derek Anderson will be the starter in Arizona this season. Stay tuned.
