Knox has chance to overtake Roy Williams?

John "Moon" Mullin of CSN Chicago insists Johnny Knox still has a chance to overtake Roy Williams for the Bears’ starting split end job.

Comcast Sports Chicago

Mullin says Williams’ camp and preseason production is "at zero," while by all accounts Knox has been impressive both on the practice field and certainly in games. Mullin also opines that Williams’ "conditioning situation" has "retard(ed) the full-speed work that a receiver can do with his quarterback." Both players should see extensive snaps in the third preseason game.

Knox has outplayed Williams in camp

Gene Chamberlain of the Sporting News confirms that Johnny Knox has outplayed Roy Williams throughout training camp.

AOL.SportingNews.com

Williams is dropping the starting spot that was handed to him without earning it early in camp. Knox showed up this summer with an additional 10 pounds of bulk in the upper body, which should help him beat the press coverage that held him back at times last season. We’re moving Williams back down the wide receiver cheat sheets.

Roy Williams struggles in preseason game

Roy Williams had no catches in Monday’s preseason game despite playing the majority of the first half.

Chicago Sun-Times

Williams dropped two of the three passes that came his way and looked like he was going through the motions. While we’re not going to rush to judgment off a glorified scrimmage, this version of Williams is one that we saw all too often in Dallas. He’s far from a sure thing to hold off Johnny Knox for the "X" receiver job all season.

Gholston behind Reed on depth chart?

Bears DE Vernon Gholston entered Monday’s preseason game after Nick Reed and Mario Addison.

ESPN Chicago

Reed is a 2009 seventh-round pick of the Seahawks that the Bears picked up while Addison is an undrafted free agent. In other words, Gholston hasn’t come close to cracking the defensive line rotation. The former No. 6 overall pick is a long shot to make the final 53.

Marion Barber effective again in preseason

Marion Barber rushed for 49 yards on 13 carries and caught five passes for 31 yards in the Bears’ second preseason game Monday night.

Barber was again a battering ram on power runs, also excelling in all facets of the passing game. Now 100 percent after battling groin and leg injuries in Dallas, Barber could be something of a drain on Matt Forte’s fantasy stock, especially at the goal line and one some third downs. MB3 is still only 28 years old, and from all indications in August, he’s got his legs back.

Harvey Unga leaves Bears training camp again

Bears RB Harvey Unga has left training camp to deal with a "personal matter."

Profootballtalk on NBC Sports

It’s the second time Unga has exited Bears camp, presumably because of the same issue. A seventh-round supplemental pick last year, Unga was already behind the curve in terms of on-field skills. He won’t make the 53-man roster.
