Slade Norris dumped by the Jaguars

Jaguars waived LB Slade Norris.

Jaguars on Twitter

Norris was a fourth-round pick of the Raiders in 2009 that was cut prior to the 2010 season. He spent last season on the Jags’ practice squad. The college defensive end at Oregon State should probably look for a home in a 3-4 defense.

Jaguars waive Michael Hamlin

Jaguars waived S Michael Hamlin.

Jaguars on Twitter

Hamlin spent much of last season on the Jags’ practice squad after getting cut by the Cowboys. With Chris Prosinski ready to go as the No. 3 safety, Hamlin is a goner.

Tiquan Underwood dumped by Jags

Jaguars waived WR Tiquan Underwood.

Jaguars on Twitter

It’s a bad sign for Underwood that he can’t even last until final cuts on a team with one of the weakest receiving corps in the league. The 2009 seventh-rounder hasn’t shown good enough hands to be counted on as a slot guy.

Cecil Shorts to become starter for Jaguars?

Jaguars.com’s John Oehser expects rookie WR Cecil Shorts to be "starting by midseason," and possibly emerge as the "best receiver on the roster" by the end of the year.

jaguars.com

Shorts caught five passes for 52 yards in the Jaguars’ second preseason game, and may be working his way up a weak receiver depth chart in Jacksonville. Currently, Shorts is listed on the third team behind Jason Hill and Jarret Dillard. He’s already making a move on Dillard, and Hill isn’t exactly tough competition.

Florida Times Union

The severity is unknown, but Karim was not back in practice as of Tuesday. The Jaguars picked up free agent Albert Young yesterday to serve as depth.

Britton still targeting Week 1

Jaguars RT Eben Britton (back surgery) is still targeting Week 1 for his return.

Florida Times Union

Britton suffered a herniated disk while lifting weights and went under the knife last week. He won’t be able to do anything physical until the stitches come out on Friday, leaving Guy Whimper as the first-team right tackle for now. Maurice Jones-Drew desperately needs the talented Britton in the lineup.
