Lynch will sit out Saturday with sore ankle

Marshawn Lynch will sit out Saturday’s preseason game to rest a sore ankle.

Danny O’Neil on Twitter

It sounds like Seattle is just using extra precaution here. Lynch is still expected to be the workhorse in Darrell Bevell’s offense, but his receptions could take a hit with Leon Washington’s role increasing. We’re steering clear of all Seahawks players this year.

Carroll praises Whitehurst’s learning curve

Coach Pete Carroll praised Charlie Whitehurst’s learning curve this week in Darrell Bevell’s West Coast offense.

SI.com

"Charlie’s functioning beautifully," Carroll said. "He’s farther along that I thought he would be this early." Whitehurst has completed 72 percent of his passes through two games compared to 58 percent for Tarvaris Jackson. Unless T-Jack picks up the pace over the final two preseason games, Whitehurst could start pushing for the Week 1 job.

Seahawks waive RB Vai Taua

Seahawks waived RB Vai Taua.

He goes to make room for LB David Vobora. Taua was Colin Kaepernick’s running back at Nevada, putting up outrageous yards-per-carry numbers but lacking NFL-caliber physical tools. He won’t be worth much of a look on waivers.

Aaron Curry reduces contract with Seattle

No. 4 overall pick Aaron Curry has agreed to a restructured contract that now expires following the 2012 season.

Profootballtalk on NBC Sports

Curry surrendered $5 million worth of guaranteed money in exchange for dropping the final two seasons on what was originally a six-year, $60 million rookie deal. Curry is not considered in the class of JaMarcus Russell in terms of draft busts, but he’s been a below-average starter with the Seahawks. The team may be grooming rookie K.J. Wright to challenge him next year.

Seahawks DE Red Bryant is a run stuffer

The Seahawks allowed an average of 4.68 yards per carry after LE Red Bryant’s year-ending injury last season, compared to 3.36 YPC before.

Seattle Times

Their rushing yards per game allowed also ballooned from 82.6 yards to 130.1 in Bryant’s absence. A dominant run defender at Pete Carroll’s "five technique" defensive end position, Bryant has resumed practicing at full speed in training camp. He’ll return as a two-down player, exiting on passing downs.
